Tech intern intro
At Optiver, engineering is more than just building tech—it’s about delivering strategic advantage. We’re looking for exceptional students with strong technical skills, a collaborative mindset, and the drive to solve complex problems with impact.
As a Software Engineer Intern, you’ll help build the high-performance systems that power our trading strategies. You’ll be fully integrated within our engineering team and working alongside experienced mentors on projects that push the boundaries of speed, efficiency, and scale.
You’ll start your internship with a hands-on technical bootcamp led by senior engineers, alongside curated coursework on trading fundamentals. From there, interns have the chance to take their work from concept to production by designing, developing, and deploying systems that directly impact our trading and research stacks. Along the way, you’ll tackle real engineering challenges and explore how AI and ML technologies can help solve problems at scale.
As an FPGA Engineer Intern, you’ll work at the intersection of hardware and trading, developing systems where nanoseconds matter. You’ll collaborate closely with senior engineers and traders to design and optimise low-latency hardware solutions that directly power our trading infrastructure.
You’ll design and implement optimisations for low-latency hardware execution strategies, analysing performance and impact along the way. Work in rapid development cycles where your contributions can make a difference within days, sometimes even hours, while tackling technical challenges that sharpen precision and critical thinking. You’ll also contribute to high-impact projects such as precision timestamping and proprietary communication protocols.

Intern stories
In our Sydney office, Madison worked on the Korea market-facing team, building an alerting framework that enables traders and researchers to create custom validations within pricing models. She owned the project end-to-end, from design to deployment, identifying past incidents the framework would have prevented. Learn more about her work, along with five other software engineer interns across our global offices.
“As soon as I started releasing code, other members of the team immediately put it to use, extending my impact beyond just my project.”
