What you will do:

As a member of the Legal team at Optiver Europe, you will report directly to the Head of Legal Europe and work in close cooperation with the Trading and Technology teams as well as with the Compliance department. As Senior Legal Counsel you will advise our Trading and Technology teams and the business on all relevant legal matters in relation to our proprietary trading activities, mainly in the European, UK and US markets.

As a full service European legal team, the Optiver Europe legal team covers a wide range of topics. However, at the outset this role will focus on providing additional support in respect of:

  • Trading related queries and documentation (particularly trading platforms, ETF documentation (AP Agreements/Market Making agreements), Institutional Sales (counterparty terms negotiation, onboarding queries, Exchange memberships & market making activities). However, you will also be expected to be flexible in your approach to work and be happy to learn about other areas of relevance to the Optiver Europe Legal Team over time such as technology contracting (including supporting internal initiatives in this space, general contract matters, HR and employment law and corporate housekeeping.

What you need to be successful:

  • Academic degree in European or UK Law;  
  • 8+ years of relevant working experience (preferably trained in an international law firm with buyside experience in the financial sector);
  • Knowledge of and interest in the financial markets, trading is a plus;
  • A flexible, pragmatic, pro-active, assertive and results-driven professional with an entrepreneurial spirit;  
  • Outstanding business to legal translation skills;
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills;
  • Great written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Team player with a good sense of humour.
