In 2019, Optiver partnered with Utrecht University to develop an Algorithms in Finance Master’s Course for science and finance master’s students.
During the 10-week course, students learned how to design stock and option trading algorithms using financial market data and to code these in Python. Python is used not only in trading but also by the financial industry as a whole and by all businesses where automation and data analysis plays a role.
Several subject matter experts from across the business, including engineers, data analysts, risk managers, mathematicians and many more contributed by giving lectures and workshops.
The course concluded with more than 50 students visiting Optiver’s office in Amsterdam to experience a trading floor in action and to watch their own algorithms compete against each other in a simulated trading environment.
The partnership with Utrecht University is set to continue in 2020 - registration opens October 2019 via the university.
