My name is Yoann Turpin and I graduated with a Master’s of Management in Financial Markets at EDHEC, France. One week after my final exam (about two years ago), I started working for Optiver.

I started as a Derivatives Trader. The training I received involved a three-week training program with trading exercises and on-the-job training, sitting with traders and learning directly from them.

I am currently on the Codec team, and I trade options. I come in every morning around 7:00 AM and check all the positions. At 8:30 AM, we have a morning meeting during which we share news and ideas about the market. Then, we can start the battle with the rest of the financial world until around 7:00 PM. After that, I go through the end-of-day administration and go back home to enjoy the evening!

When I started my job at Optiver, it was the first time I had the chance to work abroad for a long-term period. Working abroad is a great experience. You meet new colleagues and make new friends; you discover the Dutch culture and a lot more (we have colleagues from more than 60 different countries, so there are as many cultures to discover!). The diversity of the people I can work with can sometimes be a bit challenging, but so much more interesting!

I chose Optiver for two main reasons: the casual environment and the first impression I had of the senior Traders and Directors during my interview. I wanted to work in a company in which people can easily share knowledge. I think the casual environment fosters communication in general. Moreover, what you can see at Optiver is that senior Traders will always be more than happy to encourage you to think strategically about your trading. They teach you the skills to succeed as a Trader. When you realize that, you definitely want to work for Optiver.

In two years’ time? I will simply go on doing my best and learning as many things as possible about trading so that I can be the best Derivatives Trader I can be! Then, any other development will come naturally!
