History
- 1996: Optiver develops operations in Sydney, starting with two traders. The office begins with floor trading, but transitions steadily towards screen trading.
- 1999: A renewed focus on improving the internal workings of the company from further development of IT to the introduction of risk management . This brings new success and further expansion of Optiver’s capabilities.
- 2000: In response to industry trends and available opportunities, Optiver continues its transition from floor trading to screen trading.
- 2000: A local trading office is opened in Hong Kong.
- 2002: Hong Kong office relocates back to Sydney when the HK Futures Exchange (HKFE) allows remote membership.
- 2003: Optiver performs its last floor trade ever.
- 2004: Optiver starts trading the Korean market.
- 2005: Taipei office officially opens.
- 2006: Optiver Asia Pacific’s head-count now stands at 67.
- 2007: Hong Kong office reopens, as membership on the HK stock exchange (HKSE) requires a local representative office (for compliance and regulatory reasons).
- 2007: Optiver completes merger with Sydney office and moves forward as a single, global operation.
- 2007: Head-count surges to 106.
- 2007: Optiver Asia Pacific has a record year.
- 2008: Optiver opens an on-shore trading desk in Tokyo in July.
- 2008: Employee numbers reach 145.
- 2009: Optiver Asia Pacific continues to grow and finishes the year at a profit following the GFC.
- 2009: Growth is still strong with 166 employees.
- 2009: Optiver athletics carnival held at end of year in Sydney and won by the mighty Red Roosters.
- 2010: Optiver Asia Pacific welcomes its new managing director, Paul Hilgers.
- 2010: Optiver Asia Pacific is named one of the Top 50 best places to work by BRW.

- 2011: February we moved to our new Hunter St. offices to accommodate our growing teams.
- 2011: March saw us go live in India and an increase in market volatility.
- 2011: August saw market volatility increase once again.
- 2011+: This is an exciting time for Optiver Asia Pacific. We aren't just growing the number of products and markets we trade, we're also growing the number of our employees (currently over 160) and while we continue to develop our proprietary trading software. The Asia Pacific region is one of our main areas of growth. We're also keeping a keen eye on developments in China - our main focus for expansion in the future.
